2016 Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach

Corvette Racing #3

Long Beach, love this track and even in a sim it's hard to roll through!  During qualifying, I noticed the sound down on the track was miked while the announcers were narrating, never heard the cars sound so good while running the track.  This is not miked as well during the race, I've read many comments of the race vids that fans want to hear these machines and less lip!  Even so, as time has gone by, IMSA is doing a hell of a job producing this series and the sound of the track is here big time during qualify.  Wonder if any editors for IMSA have heard the track sound on Nitro America's vids?

In 1958 the British Empire Motor Club (BEMC) formed a development committee to investigate the possibility of selecting and buying a piece of property for a road racing course.  By mid summer of that year the founding committee, whose members consisted of Dick Byatt, George Hill, Chuck Stockey, Fred Hayes and Ray Liddle, had found a 450-acre tract north of Bowmanville and today it's known as Canadian Tire MotorSprots Park.

Some 10 Indianapolis 500 winners including Rodger Ward, A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, Bobby Unser, Rick Mears and Gordon Johncock have also raced at Mosport. Anyone standing on the hill in 1959 would not believe what has transpired over the last 40 years.  The track is also nicknamed The 10 Corners, this is what it's all about: 2.459 miles, measured at the center-line of it's 28-foot width, of twisting, undulating pavement with speeds the highest of North America Road Courses that will challenge the best drivers in the world.

Oak Racing Prototype #42 Moran/Nissan

Today, OAK Racing has made steady progress in its debut season in North America, knocking on the door of its first TUDOR United SportsCar Championship victory with back-to-back podium finishes at Detroit Belle Isle and Watkins Glen International.  That door was kicked wide open Sunday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as Gustavo Yacaman and Olivier Pla drove the team’s No. 42 Morgan/Nissan to a convincing victory, leading every one of the 133 laps in the two-hour and 45-minute Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance.  Based in Le Mans, France, OAK Racing is competing in North America on a full-time basis for the first time in 2014 after winning the FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 title in 2013.

ViperExchange No. 33 Viper GT3-R

Viper GT3-R in the IMSA TUDOR Championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park where a thrilling last-lap pass sealed the GT Daytona (GTD) win on Sunday. Keating led twice in his race-opening driving shift, a season-best performance that set the tone for a winning day.     “It’s been a longtime coming,” Keating said. “We both drove a great race, we had a great car, it’s easy to drive and that’s all you can ask for at this kind of a track.  High-speed track, lots of risk, and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully we win on Sunday and sell on Monday at ViperExchange.com.”

Corvette Racing No. 3 C7-R

Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia gave the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7-R its fourth consecutive TUDOR United SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) class victory on Sunday, carrying Corvette Racing to its 11th victory in 14 years at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Magnussen took the lead 54 minutes into the two-hour, 45-minute Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance when Kuno Wittmer’s pole-winning No. 93 SRT Motorsports Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R drove through the grass to avoid another competitor. Magnussen turned the Corvette over to Garcia one lap after taking the lead. Garcia led the rest of the way, taking the checkered flag 11.024 seconds ahead of Jonathan Bomarito in the No. 93 Viper in the race that ran without a full-course caution.

Falken Tire No. 17 Porsche 911 RSP

After good performances in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring - where the team debuted the Porsche 911 RSR with a fifth-place finish - and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca - where the No. 17 was in contention for a podium finish - the two hour, 45-minute race at CTMP was the clearest sign of the gains made by the Team Falken Tire entry.  Sellers' stint saw the Ohio-native hold-off attack after attack before the close competition saw several cars pass him late in the first hour.

Sellers' relinquished the wheel of the blue and teal Falken Porsche to Henzler who continued the battle ultimately taking eighth.  It was the consistency of the tire over the stint that has the team excited about the future.  With this tire, the feeling is that Sellers and Henzler will now be able to fine-tune the chassis to the Falken Azenis to narrow the gap even further to the competition.  It will take only a few tenths of a second over the course of the roughly one-hour between pit stops - dictated by fuel usage - to make the No. 17 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR a threat at every round on the calendar.  Small steps and big effort are beginning to pay off.
